York Kazakh Society was unofficially founded in November 2006 by a group of students from Kazakhstan. At that time new film on fictitious character 'Borat' was released in the UK which satirically pictured Kazakhstan and did not bear even distant resemblance to reality. This was one of the major incitements to Alisher Khozhanazarov and other first year students to create this society. Our mission is to: * Unite Kazakhstani students at the University of York * Promote the University of York among Kazakhstani students in the UK * Raise awareness of Kazakhstan and Kazakh culture among international students
