Описание

Revolution reggae music - edgy, raw, natural, roots... They are Rootz Underground. That is their sound. Many influences have borne their 'rootz', including their homeland Jamaica - birthplace of Rastafari and other radical movements, JAH - creator of all things, family, the earth in all its glory, the revolutionary 70's, Dub and Roots Reggae music. The revolution that is Rootz Underground began in 2000 when the band members, whose lives had crossed paths sometime or another from childhood, linked their individual musical talents in search of forming one solid unit. The Rootz Underground revolution emerged on the scene in a blaze of high-energy performances and conscious lyrics Individually, each had embarked on a road of truth, seeking musical and spiritual harmony, and when their paths inevitably forged to form Rootz, they got together to offer up a striking and refreshing mix of conscious lyrics, and a harmonic alternative reggae sound that marries their intellectual, spiritual and creative energies. This marriage has birthed music that is inspiring, energizing and real, progressive, unique, and with edge their reggae has a modern hip hop feel infused with slivers of jazz, rock and revolutionary dub. Collectively their union affirms an aim of bringing a JAH-inspired message to the masses. It pulses with message, from social to love revolution, from the poignant Rain to the guttural and revolutionary How much Longer, and the witty In the Jungle. Though Rootz Underground has only just begun digging their 'rootz' in the industry, the band's old soul has already effortlessly enlisted a core of followers - some who already saw the world through like eyes and are glad to hear such sounds of social commentary and life/love lessons on stage; others, simply just converts. Whatever it may be, Rootz Underground is one of few of Jamaica's younger bands whose shows are almost always filled to capacity, whose fans will even cross the island to take in the positive vibrations. The band envisage the future free from the shackles of Babylon - liberated from the 9-5, taking the Rootz Underground message far and wide as their sole life's-work. As they say, prayer and hard work reaps rewards - Their journey has only just begun. Rootz’ 1st single: 'Victims of The System' has has peaked at 2 on Hype TV's video charts, 2 on RE TV's video countdown and stayed at 1 on MTV Tempo's Cross Caribbean countdown for 5 weeks! And the revolution continues... Since their start in 2000, performing at live jam sessions in Kingston, Jamaica at Harry's bar, to RE Unplugged at Weekendz and then becoming the main act at Mystic Urchin's Tuesday Nite Live at Village, Rootz Underground have gained notoriety for their live performances. The group performed live for five years before beginning the recording process for their debut release MOVEMENT. The band has had the opportunity to perform at such Jamaican festivals such as Reggae Sumfest, Welcome To Jamrock, the Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival and Flashpoint Film Festival. Upcoming U.S. shows include the Ragga Muffins Festival in Long Beach at the Long Beach Arena in California February 16th, the opening slot for Midnite on February 24th at The Mystic Theater in Petaluma, California and the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in Mendocino County, California in late June 2008. Their first U.S festival appearance was at the 2007 Monterey Bay Reggae Festival. The future brings a wide breadth of opportunities for Rootz Underground, and listeners will find a refreshing concept from a group capable to translate and broaden the scope of reggae in the modern context. The six-member group unites Stevie G Newland (lead singer), Charles Lazarus (lead guitar), Jeffrey Moss-Solomon (rhythm guitar), Colin Young (bass guitar), Paul Smith (keyboard) and Leon Campbell (drummer) to form a revolutionary roots, rock, reggae band. Rootz Underground built its live show and readied the songs for MOVEMENT after the tremend
